Welcome to Ko Phangan!

Ko Phangan, (Thai: เกาะพะงัน), is an island in the Gulf of Thailand, situated in Surat Thani Province. It’s part of the Samui Archipelago.

It’s  famous worldwide for its Full Moon Party at Haad Rin Beach, and as a backpacker destination – but as you’ll find out, there is a lot more to our beautiful island. It’s now becoming as well known for its family friendly resorts, quiet beaches and yoga and meditation scenes as it is for its tropical parties.

Ko Phangan has two sister islands: the larger Ko Samui to the south and the smaller Ko Tao to the north. Both are easily accessible by ferry – so there’s always something new to do or see during your stay on the island. You’ll never tire of our little corner of paradise.

Did you know? The name ‘Ko Pha Ngan’ derives from the word “ngan”, meaning “sand bar” in the southern dialect, as there are many sand bars located offshore. We’re also an island fit for a king! – Ko Phangan has been a longtime favourite of past kings of Thailand. Rama V, or Chulalongkorn, for example, visited the island 14 times during his reign!

What helps make our island seem so wonderfully detached from the hustle and bustle of modern day life, is the fact that you can only reach the island by ferry, either from Surat Thani on the mainland, or Ko Samui. The perfect balance of tranquility and all necessary amenities!
