As we’ve recently had questions from our guests concerning the current period of national mourning here in Thailand, we thought it would be useful to explain to our present and upcoming guests what is happening, and how they can best stay culturally aware and respectful over the next ten days.
In remembrance of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej
Thailand is currently preparing for the cremation of His Majesty King Bhumibol Aduladyej, taking place between the 26th-29th October. This is the culmination of a year of national mourning, following the death of the King in October 2016. During this sensitive time, please remember to act respectably whilst out and about, and to dress appropriately in public – black or white clothing is preferred, and shoulders should be kept covered.
Just a few ‘insider’ tips to make sure that your stay on the island during this time is as stress free as possible!
